Logo design for Pakistan Orphans Project

My lifelong friend, Barry Casey, and his friend Wahab Sharoon, work with 35 orphans in a village in Pakistan. Together, they raise money to buy mosquito netting, tents, and cots, as well as organize projects for things like building toilets, for the children. Barry reached out to me, asking if I could design a quick and simple logo for their tiny organization, and of course I said yes … how could I not?

    Jane De Cuir Website Design

Out of the blue, I got an email from Jane, saying that a mutual musician friend of ours (the magical Patrice Haan) had recommended me as a website designer. And since I love working with creative clients, I dove right into making something fresh and modern for her. Jane’s roots are in her father’s favorites—Louis Jordan, Sarah Vaughan, and Gene Krupa. Her music has evolved through the decades to form her personal blend, so from one song to the next, Jane’s music moves from light jazz to heavy blues and her lyrics range from playful to the deeply spiritual. You can see why I had fun! www.JaneDeCuir.com

New Website Design for Fl!p & Zeke

I was so delighted to get a call from my dear friend Fl!p saying that she needed a tiny website, like yesterday. Tiny is easy. Working with Fl!p and her sweetie Zeke is easy. So here’s the result—a bare bones musician’s website that still manages to have videos, Bandcamp song links, a blog, and some other small bells and whistles. Thanks, y’all, this was fun! You can see the website, here.

    Mandombé

Fascinating! Mandombe or Mandombé is a script proposed in 1978 in Mbanza-Ngungu in the Bas-Congo province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo by Wabeladio Payi, who related that it was revealed to him in a dream by Simon Kimbangu, the prophet of the Kimbanguist Church. Mandombe is based on the sacred shapes and , and intended for writing African languages such as the four national languages of the Congo, Kikongo, Lingala, Tshiluba and Swahili, though it does not have enough vowels to write Lingala fully. It is taught in Kimbanguist church schools in Angola, the Republic of the Congo, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It is also…

    Artist David Álvarez

Artist David Álvarez’s illustrates Noche Antigua (Ancient Night) in which an opossum and a rabbit work together—and against each other—to create and maintain the sun and the moon. The book is based on elements from ancient myths in several Central American cultures. Álvarez captures a sense of quiet magic with the simplified forms and hushed tones of his illustrations, which seem to glow from the illumination of the moon. You can see more of the artist’s work on Instagram and his Etsy shop, and find a hardcover copy of Noche Antigua on Amazon.
